Transfers to and from Perth Airport

Perth Airport is one of the major airports in Australia, and is located nearby to the city of Perth. It's IATA code is listed as PER, and approximately 14 million passengers pass through its doors every year. The airport serves as a gateway to the Perth metropolitan area, and also as an important link to a large number of destinations around the world. It is a hub for several airline companies, including Qantas, and a focus city of Virgin Australia. Passengers will find that Perth Airport directions are quite simple to follow, however, motorists will need to ensure that they are travelling to the correct terminal building, as there is an international and domestic side to the airport.

The city of Perth is located in Western Australia, along the coast, and is one of the larger cities on the continent. To the south of the city of Perth are the areas of Rockingham, Mandurah and Banbury, and just north of the city is Joondalup. A couple of national parks are in the nearby vicinity, such as the Midgegoroo National Park, the Lane Poole Conservation Reserve and the Watheroo National Park, but no other large cities. Australia’s other well-known cities such as Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are found to the eastern side of the continent in the areas of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. The largest city in South Australia is Adelaide. Perth Airport is to the east of the Central Business District of the city, and in the suburb of Perth Airport. It is also nearby to the areas of Belmont, Kewdale, High Wycombe and South Guildford.

The airport of Perth consists of one large international terminal and two large domestic terminals. They are found on the same airport site, however, the domestic terminals (T3 and T4) are found to the western side of the main runway, while the International Terminal (T1) is found to the eastern side. The domestic terminals are approximately 12 km, or 7.5 miles from the city center of Perth, and the international terminal is approximately 17 km, or 11 miles from the city center. The terminals are about 11 km, or 6.8 miles apart. The international and domestic sections of the airport each have their own entrance, and therefore a different set of directions.

Perth Airport directions to the domestic terminals from the city center

The drive from the city center of Perth to the domestic terminals will take approximately twenty-five minutes, depending on traffic conditions, however, always allow extra time to find suitable parking at the airport. Directions to the domestic terminals from the city center are as follows: Head east on the Graham Farmer Freeway, keeping right at the fork and following signs for East Perth/East Parade/State Route 66. Take the exit onto he Great Eastern Highway (National Highway 1) and head east toward Midland/Airport. Just past the Tonkin Highway turn right into Brearley Avenue and go through two roundabouts. The domestic terminals will then be seen to the left and signposts will lead to the parking areas of these terminals.

Perth Airport directions to the International Terminal from the city center

The drive to the international side of the airport will take approximately thirty-five minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Recently, in order to make the trip more convenient, a new intersection has been built. This has greatly reduced congestion along the Tonkin Highway in the vicinity of Horrie Miller Drive. The new intersection is just north of the Tonkin Highway/Leach Highway intersection, and provides a connection to Dunreath Drive. The intersection is traffic light controlled with wide access lanes. From the city center motorists will head northeast on Lord Street/State Route 51 and turn right onto the Tonkin Highway/State Route 4. Take the new intersection onto Dunreath Drive and at the roundabout, take the first exit onto Horrie Miller Drive.

Alternative routes to the International Terminal could involve the Great Eastern Highway to Tonkin Highway, or Orrong Road to the Leach Highway or Kewdale Road.

Airport access from the North, South and East of Perth

Motorists travelling from eastern areas such as York, Childlow and Sawyers Valley will take the Great Eastern Highway in a westerly direction, and the Mitchell Freeway south can be taken from areas such as Joondalup, Woodvale and Stirling. This road provides a connection to the Graham Farmer Freeway and to Lord Street. Main roads from the north also include State Route 71, Wanneroo Road and the Great Northern Highway. From Mandurah in the south the Kwinana Freeway (State Route 2) heads towards central Perth and also passes the Roe Highway and Leach Highway. The South Western Highway is another main route to follow from the south.

Both terminal buildings have short-term and long-term parking facilities, and are well equipped with shops and restaurants. The international operations of the airport are handled from one terminal, inside of which passengers will find internet services, postal facilities, a foreign exchange bureau and ATM, information stands, public telephones, showers and parenting rooms and a public observation deck from where the incoming and outgoing planes can be watched. There are also a number of car rental companies at Perth Airport.

There are duty-free stores available on the airside of this terminal as well, and Emirates, Malaysia Airline Systems, Qantas Airways and Singapore Airlines operate lounges for their business and VIP passengers. There are two domestic terminals referred to as T3 and T4. T3 is mainly occupied by Skywest, Virgin Australia, Alliance Airlines and Tiger Airways, while T4 is the facility used by Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar. In T4 passengers can request assistance from the ‘Gold Coats’ volunteers, easily recognized in their yellow jackets. All types of facilities are available in the domestic terminals, and the entire airport complex, including the International Terminal, is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Other ways to reach Perth Airport include by bus and taxi, however, there are currently no direct train services to the airport. Transperth runs public buses to the domestic terminals only, but the Connect Shuttle buses are available to both sides of the airport. Taxis can be taken from any area in the city, and at any time of the day or night.
